Two Years of Reconnecting Children with Nature, Movement, and Themselves
In a world where childhood is increasingly shaped by screens, stress, and uncertainty, something essential is being lost: connection—to nature, to others, and to self.
Nature Explorer, an initiative by WeAre1, was created to bring that connection back.
Launched two years ago, the program has been working with children from underserved communities across Spain—including refugees, orphans, and those in foster care—offering something simple yet powerful: a safe outdoor space to grow.
🌍 More Than Just Outdoor Activities
Nature Explorer isn’t just about getting kids outside. It’s about what happens when they’re there.
Through a structured blend of sports, environmental education, mental wellbeing, and creative expression, children experience learning in a way that feels natural, engaging, and meaningful.
They run, explore, create, reflect—and most importantly, they belong.
⚽ Movement Builds Confidence
Physical activity is a core pillar of the program. From football sessions to team challenges and obstacle courses, children develop strength, coordination, and discipline.
Beyond fitness, they gain something deeper: confidence, teamwork, and a sense of achievement.
🧠 Mental Wellbeing Comes First
Many of these children carry invisible challenges—stress, displacement, or emotional struggles.
That’s why Nature Explorer integrates mental wellness into every experience. Through mindfulness, breathing exercises, and guided group sessions, children learn how to understand and manage their emotions in a safe, supportive environment.
Here, being heard matters.
🌱 Learning Through Nature
Nature becomes the classroom.
Children explore ecosystems, discover plants and wildlife, and begin to understand their role in protecting the environment. These hands-on experiences build curiosity, awareness, and responsibility.
🎨 Creativity Without Limits
Through art, storytelling, and outdoor creative projects, children are encouraged to express themselves freely.
Whether it’s creating with natural materials or sharing stories in a circle, creativity becomes a powerful outlet for identity, imagination, and healing.
🤝 Building Belonging
At its core, Nature Explorer is about connection.
Children from different backgrounds come together, form friendships, and learn to trust one another. Through shared experiences, barriers fade—and a sense of belonging takes their place.
🌟 A Model That’s Growing
Over the past two years, Nature Explorer has evolved into a structured, repeatable model with:
Weekly outdoor sessions
Seasonal nature camps
Sports and wellness activities
Mental health workshops
Eco-art and environmental projects
Community engagement days
The vision is clear:to scale this model across more communities and reach more children who need it most.
🌿 Final Thought
When you give a child access to nature, movement, and emotional support, you’re not just filling their time—you’re shaping their future.
Two years in, Nature Explorer is already proving one thing:real impact doesn’t need complexity—just intention, consistency, and care.
